XXC World HQ Tour #1
I get a lot of e mails, and and see posts out there on the web that refer to the XXC "staff", etc., etc., I think a LOT of folks think that XXC Magazine is a large(r) mag, like the fine folks at Bike or Bicycling. In reality the mag is one person (sort of). XXC is not owned by anyone, it's not a marketing tool, or a money making glossy mag jammed with ads that you can pick up in your grocery store. It's sort of like that punk 'zine that your art school friends put out 20 years ago, except in full color, with a few ads, and nothing to do with Ian MacKaye.
What XXC IS, is a mag dedicated to endurance racing and epic adventures put out by a guy who used to rock the mid pack at endurance races, then got older, even slower, and fatter (LOL!), but did not lose the love of the sport. Of course I don't do it alone. The words are by YOU. I am just the guy that tries to put it all together. I am blessed to have a fine group of folks that are eager to contribute their words and pics to XXC, and others willing to pimp the mag at the races (Yep I'm talking to you Brad, Rob, Don, Aaron, Amy, Ben, and William and among others!). The contributors and folks out there racing is what makes XXC happen and I can't thank you all enough.
In the coming weeks XXC #9 will be getting tidied up and is due to publish in late October or early November. I wanted it to be out in early October, but as many of you may or may not know, XXC World HQ is moving to Michigan (Wife's job). So things are a bit nuts right now as I am sort of doing the solo dad thing whilst Wifey is in D.C., getting schooled on some new job stuff. But #9 IS coming for sure. Then a little break until 2011 as I look into what XXC needs to do to rule the world. Cheaper print? (not sure that is possible). iPad friendly? Digital only? Kill the print? Or give up and kill the mag?
For now though I give you part one in a two part XXC World HQ tour....
Exciting isn't it?? One iMac, a chair, a couple digital cameras, and an almost empty pint glass. Later I will continue the tour with a shot of the R&D Room (AKA The Bike Room).
Anyway, as XXC gets ready to close out the 2010 season, I just want to say thanks to all the folks that have contributed to XXC or helped support the mag by purchasing stuff from the Merch page or downloading the mag. It really means a lot.
OK, OK, time to get back to #9!
