HBR/Wayne Ultra Double Dip Award!
So a few posts ago I put out the challenge to the local Ohio/WV/PA enduro freaks that anyone who did the 70+ Hilly Billy Roubaix on Saturday, June 26 and the Wayne Ultra on Sunday the 27th would get some XXC shwag sent their way, and the size of their race ballz talked about here on the XXC Blog. My friend Aaron was convinced that more than a few would be doing the race, so the rule was amended to the best overall time out of the race double dippers. In the end that really wan't to much of an issue.
At the HBR on Saturday Gerry Pflug (Salsa/Pro Bikes/SPK) took the single speed win AND the overall win by 10 minutes over Men's Under 40 winner Justin Pokrivka (Pro Bikes/Cohen & Associates). Both of these guys finished strong and way under the expected winning times. Both also planned to be at Sunday's Wayne Ultra. I assumed that I should get their addresses in preparations for one of them to be the winner of my little challenge of race ballzy-ness.
So after two days of racing the winner of the XXC Magazine's HBR/Wayne Double Dip Your Big Race Ballz Award goes to.....
Ruth Cunningham?
I mean RUTH CUNNINGHAM!!!
Ruth took the #5 spot on the Hilly Billy Podium on Saturday and finished #2 at the Wayne Ultra on Sunday. The pre race "Baller" favorites Justin and Gerry ended up DNFing at the Wayne, as did almost half of the Men's XXC field.
XXC congratulates our/my long time race friend and Pro Bikes teammate Ruth Cunningham (Pro Bikes) on a killer race weekend and Double Dipping her Big Race (non) Ballz at two killer races in the blazing summer sun and HIIIGGGGHHHH humidity of the tri state area. Some XXC goodies will be heading Ruth's way this week. I will also be amending the name of this contest in the future I suppose. LOL!
At the Wayne Ultra; Ernesto "Solo Goat" Marenchin took the Men's Open win followed by Daniel Evans and Bradley Schmalzer. The top women were Mandi Riddle, Ruth "Big (non) Ballz" Cunningham, and Meredith Eriewine. Full results from the Wayne Ultra can be seen HERE.
Full results from the Hilly Billy can be seen HERE. And look for more coverage and photos from the race in Issue #8 of XXC in late July!
