2010 Chequamegon 40 Video and Stuff
The Chequamegon 40 is the most popular mountain bike races in the Mid West, hell it might just might be one of the most popular mountain bike races in all of the U.S. It's been referred to as the "Leadville 100 of the Mid West" (just 60 miles less and not at 11,000 feet above sea level). I mean the thing is huge, boasting 1,700 racers on the start line! Like Leadville it also takes a fair amount of shit for not being all single track (it's made up primarily of cross country ski trails and dirt roads), but that doesn't mean it's not hard or an honor to win.
This year's Men's Overall winner was Brian Matter in 2:09:27 (18.9 avg mph!!!) followed 14 seconds later by Tristan Schouten, and Jason Sager just 18 seconds after him! That's some TIGHT racing. Matter has a race recap up on his Blog with pics n'at. You can Cheq it out (sorry) by clicking HERE. Tristan Schouten's account is HERE (mostly pics).

A racer, in full kit walking, as some others are doing, but where is the bike? Yikes! Whatever happened to it, must have REALLY sucked. Sure hope it wasn't a band of Wisconsin Highwaymen hopped up on cheese and Miller Light. Better luck next time I guess. EDIT: Brought to my attention that was not Wisconsin Highwaymen at all, but merely me not seeing the stokerless tandem that is farther ahead. Well that makes me feel a little better.
The Women's top spots went to Jenna Rinehart (2:26:32) in first, Sara Kylander-Johnson in 2nd, and Lisa Krayer in 3rd. Nice work!
Keep an eye out for XXC Mag #9, which is due to drop in a few-ish weeks (sorry for the delay, in the process of moving house!), you just might see a bit more about the 40.
