Lost Article And Stuff
Man, there was a simple two page spread that I wanted in XXC Mag #9. I worked on it for a day or two to get the look I wanted. In the end I had to cut it due to the fact that while I LOVE being able to offer folks a print option for the mag, I need to do it through MagClould.com and that is pricey at 20¢ per page. Not to air my dirty laundry (or Soiled Chamois') but all but $2 of the print copies is production. Yep, $11 issue yield $2 (and that is also with working with MagCloud to help discount the mag. Good thing I don't have a day job to worry about quitting, because that really wouldn't cut it.
Anyway, the only reason I mention all this is that A. I read the stuff out there on the Net that says "great mag, but too pricey." and yeah, it is not cheap, but I just want to be honest with my readers about what I am getting out if it. And B. My goal for XXC was to make it a digital mag because I knew I could offer unlimited pages and coverage to our great sport and not have to worry about page counts. Well then many readers asked for a print mag. I gave them that but now am faced with page count issues! HA!
Without more advertising, or an investor, XXC will stay as it is for some time. Some may dig that, some may be disappointed. I love this mag, and hope folks enjoy it. I plan on being back in 2011 and I hope you will join me.
Anyway, here is a .jpg of the spread I had to cut. It's just a blurb about the Gravel Worlds, but I loved working on this layout and finally got the look I wanted. Only to then have to cut it. F*ck page counts.
Congrats to all the folks who threw down a Gravel Worlds. Sucks I couldn't get this in. My apologies.
Thanks for all your support folks. Hope to be back in 2011.
